  • Description: I. (Reel 1) The Western Front 1916, re-edited sections of IWM 116 BATTLE OF THE ANCRE, using the same scenes and captions as the original, but not in the same order. This covers events in the middle period of the Battle of the Somme, September-November 1916. The film stresses that "these pictures are absolutely genuine and photographed on the actual battlefield". II. (Reel 2) A similar re-editing treatment of IWM 571 TRIUMPH OF BRITAIN'S SEA POWER showing the surrender of the German High Seas Fleet in 1919. The re-editing shows a number of errors. From a scene of the battle cruisers SMS Hindenburg and SMS Derflinger the first ship has been edited out and the Derflinger incorrectly described as the Hindenburg. The ship described as HMS Queen Elizabeth is probably HMS King George V. The reel shows the procession of the High Seas Fleet to Scapa Flow, and of the U-boat fleet to Harwich. The middle of the film contains scenes of the submarineU-35 sinking the merchant vessel SS Parkgate in the Western Mediterranean in 1917.
